Six months to go!!! Will I be ready. Will I be fit? Will we raise our target amount? It is an exciting thought creeping slowly, but not that slowly, into a reality. A little bit like being on a road to a perform at a special destination and a special event, you know where you are going but are not sure you actually want to arrive.
Last Sunday bordered on disaster. On Tuesday I was walking in brilliant sunshine along the Tan Road and on up the slopes of Great Whernside. It was as if the controller in the sky said ‘Ok he had a bad time on Sunday so let’s ease a little, for a day at least.’ The weather was benign. Up on the top the views were breathtaking, wide expanses of Yorkshire were on view. All was quiet on the walking front. Great Whernside is one of my favourite walks, it’s like an old friend. I am comfortable being with it and happy to share my time with it. In return the area is quiet, restful and yet always interesting. The view up the Wharfe Valley is very beautiful reaching well beyond Kilnsey Crag and down towards the lower reaches of the river. Spectacular.
Stats of the week. One yoga class. One run, 2 miles. Weight lost two pounds. Three circuits and four walks, 21 miles, 8hrs 31 mins and 2970ft in ascents. A steady week.
Great week for fundraising. Lots of fun at the Beetle Drive, along with raffle and tombola. Even the quietest person or child becomes competitive at a Beetle Drive!! They are really good old fashioned fun, everybody (age range five to eighty one!) participates in all the rounds and even if your luck is out you could still win a prize, ie the booby prize for the lowest score. The atmosphere in The Village Hall was a good, a great place to have it, making it cosy, friendly and buzzing with activity! To all who came and parted with their money for Macmillan. Thank you.
From Macmillan this week a reminder that they campaign for a better deal for people affected by cancer. They want everyone with cancer to receive the right level of treatment and support, regardless of who they are and where they live. http://m.macmillan.org.uk/article/name/getinvolved-casestudiesim-kateandian
In closing can I ask you to pass the blog address, http://www.charleseverestbasecamp.wordpress.com, on to your friends, they might read it, and support Macmillan. Alternatively, they could also do this by visiting http://www.justgiving.com/Charles-Appleyard
Until next time. Goodbye
