The Starting Point

Monday 1st October 2012

Hello reader, welcome to my first ever blog concerning the trek to Everest Base Camp, scheduled to take place in November 2013. I hope it keeps you up to date with my news and gives you some idea what this event is all about, it’s organisation, the highs and the lows.

The reality of what I am planning has suddenly come into focus because of three reasons. Firstly, the setting up of a ‘Justgiving’ page has led to many people contacting me about the whole idea, some, nearly all, are encouraging and often come with a promise of support. Secondly, every so often I keep getting a small panic when I think of walking all that way at that height. Will I be able to make it? Thirdly, how on earth will I reach my target of £5,000 fund raising for Macmillan Cancer Support, the people I will be going with? These are massive challenges for me. To these ends I will be organising a series of events over the next year to try and raise money. Some will coincide, and will be part of, my 60th birthday celebrations, if that’s what you call reaching 60, others will be just an opportunity for people to be involved in fund raising activities whilst, hopefully, having a good time.

So keep an eye out for my blog which will be written on a weekly basis from the end of October. This will be a fifty two week countdown towards November 2013 and the start of the trek! It will include information on fund raising, details of events and the progress made by me in trying to be fit enough to take on ‘The Challenge’. Ultimately I am trying to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and  that is the motivation for me. Over the next few weeks and months I hope to illustrate why this is important from my point of view. Any advice and suggestions will be gratefully received and considered.

Until next time. Goodbye.
